When I began my business(es) I had such dreams. And as I became less motivated, things became less clear, and I began to give up and move on to the next idea.

Eventually, everyone around me started to listen to my ideas and then move on. All my ideas hovered around one central theme: how skilled I was at marketing. The ideas differed in how I applied my marketing skills. I was a gypsy: I moved from business idea to business idea. There was one idea that has stuck with me for over ten years: branding.

I started to volunteer as a business coach for the City of Austin. Then I was invited to participate as a mentor for the University of Texas FastForward Business Program. I realized something extremely significant: working WITH someone rather than for them made a huge difference for ME. In return, my excitement and my cheerleading them…helped them grow their business.

There were moments I even said “maybe this isn’t God’s plan for me”.

Then another great coach made a comment: why was I afraid to invest? I spent over $30,000 to get a degree, HOPING it got me a job. In fact, thousands of people graduate every semester spending more money than I did, hoping they too have made the right investment. They put themselves into debt for years, hoping they find a good paying career. And sometimes…that career falls short of their investment. What’s the difference?
